Our bodies know exactly how much oil is needed to keep the skin healthy and hydrated, but sometimes there can be a glitch that contributes to extra and constant oiliness.
Follow these hacks to deal with oily hair:
1. Stop washing it daily
Washing your hair too often could be the reason your body is producing too much oil; your scalp experiences an imbalance in oil production. Every time that we wash our hair the shampoo strips the oils from the scalp. If you wash your hair daily it is sends the wrong signals to the sebum production system. We tend to believe washing our hair when it's oily is the best move, but the scalp produces more sebum because it gets washed away.
If you would like to try reducing the amount of shampooing per week, be patient, it takes at least a couple of weeks until this process is rebalanced.
2. Do not skip on the conditioner
Conditioner is great at providing the needed dose of moisture and nutrition. Most importantly, it does the job of closing the cuticles to keep the benefits from hair masks and treatments inside the hair shaft. Shampoo your scalp and condition your ends, that's the golden rule.
3. Know your products

4. Avoid silicones, mineral oils, and petroleum
If you struggle with oiliness you’ll have to say “ciao-bye” to silicones, mineral oils, and petroleum. They are the most common ingredients in hair products but they are very deceiving. These are usually added to make your hair look smoother and shinier but they build up quickly and attract dirt particles, which make the hair look even oilier.
5. Rinse your hair thoroughly
‘Rinse until the last bubble is gone’ should be written in the instructions of every hair product. Once you clean, treat, and condition your hair; make sure there is no product left behind on your scalp. Why? It builds up and makes your hair look heavier and greasier with each passing day.
6. Avoid touching your hair
Think of everything your hands touch during the day, then try to count the number of times you touch your face and your hair. We use our hands for many things, they are dirty and sweaty, the last thing you want to do is transfer it to your clean and healthy hair.
7. Avoid heat
Heat can be one of the worst things for oily hair because it makes the scalp sweat more than usual and this will make your hair look dirtier. Also, using heat flattens the cuticles, which makes the sebum more obvious.
8. Apple cider vinegar
Balance out the oiliness with products that have a specific pH that is good for hair.
