Why avoid sulfates and silicons

We understand that with the craziness nowadays, it’s almost impossible to keep track of everything in our daily lives – I mean, we really do understand. The good news is we got your back, doing the homework for you, and challenging the industry to do the same.

Our goal is to set you free from the vicious damage cycle – or “fake-good-looking hair” cycle – and we want you to understand how it happens.

The traditional cosmetic industry is still working with a 50s mindset where a better living was related to the use of those “amazing” new chemicals while ignoring their impact on long-term wellbeing and human health. We are still being bombarded by toxic chemicals from all sides on a daily basis, and we aren't even aware of it.

From a haircare perspective, most of the shampoos available on the market are infested with sulfates – unnecessary and detergent chemicals – that strip away the healthy and good-for-you natural hair oil, water, and protein, causing a deep dryness and opacity. Because you see your hair becoming a little disaster, you feel like pouring a good amount of conditioner right away to cover that damage.

That’s how the cycle starts and it never ends.

The bad news is that many of the conditioners that you may be using are just a mix of silicons, wax, and petrol derivatives (yes, PETROLEUM), working as makeup on your hair – hiding the damage and “faking looking good” – not to mention the health impact. It does look like your hair is super shiny and hydrated when in fact this is just literally how it looks. Those chemicals do make the hair greasy and heavy, giving you many reasons to wash it again, since the only substances capable of removing that from your hair are the harsh sulfates.

So to avoid this vicious cycle, we deeply encourage you to go for sulfate-free shampoos and silicone-free conditioners, to mention the least. What we recommend is that you would ideally check the whole ingredients list and stay away from other harmful, toxic, and unnecessary chemicals from all beauty products you might need, but we will talk about that in a future post.
