Everything You Need To Know About Slow Beauty

The Beauty Trend That We Need This Year (and that we hope stays)

It isn’t a novelty that our fast-paced lifestyle has had a terrible impact on the environment. The expected trends for this year lean towards minimalism, less is more is the new black, and we’re into it.

Slowing down has been our motto for the last 24 months. Much has changed ever since, though this time, we know better and we’re rethinking our priorities because even though we’ve made drastic changes in some of our most harmful habits, there’s still a long road ahead.

What we know

Competition within certain industries is a major factor influencing fast consumerism. It has become an endless search for who has the cheapest, fastest, newest products and what products  deliver the fastest results with the least effort. Complementary to this factor, there’s the confusion between knowing what we want and what we really need.

Everything You Need To Know About Slow Beauty

Less is more

In addition to what was mentioned before, the convenience of online shopping makes it harder to be fully mindful of our shopping habits. However, awareness about the challenges and consequences of fast-paced consumerism gives us the opportunity to reconsider our consumption patterns.

What is Slow Beauty?

Compared to slow fashion, where timeless pieces govern the wardrobe and quality over price is considered the rule of thumb, slow beauty is very similar. It’s a minimalist approach to all things related to beauty and self-care: makeup, fragrances, skin care, mouth care, and hair care with a  focus on ingredient quality and long-lasting results.

Slowing down benefits you and those around you in a positive way. We encourage you to do it in all aspects possible: beauty and fashion, mentally and physically.

How to transform old habits and engage in slow beauty

  • Seek out timeless beauty products.

One or two perfumes that define your personal fragrance. A couple of lipsticks that you know are staple colors that define your style. A hair care line that is minimal and that’ll give you exactly what your hair needs.
  • Be mindful of your desires...

...and understand the reasons behind your purchases. Satisfying an emotional state with a temporary fix is not the best solution.
  • Pause and reflect before making a move.

Do you already have this item at home? What will you use it for and how often? What are others saying about these products and will they work for my needs? Are the ingredients harmful to myself or the environment? Is the price worth it?
  • Look for high-quality products...

...by reading and understanding the ingredient list. On a product label, the ingredients are listed in order of predominance. Be diligent and identify the main ingredients in your self-care products and which ones are acting as fillers that damage your hair and skin.
  • Stop expecting next-day results.

Good things take time, respect that time. When you trust a brand and its products, commit to a self-care routine and see the long-term results that it brings you.
  • Life goes fast.

Slow down and savour the rewards of your efforts. Enjoy the process of acquiring things (used or new), starting a new routine, or learning something new.

  • Invest in your lifestyle...

...and be conscious of the things you acquire on the way to your future. Having the latest item, or the most popular brand will not give you long-term satisfaction.
  • Make it work.

Surely you already own clothes and self-care products. If you are planning on adding a piece of clothing to your wardrobe or a new face cream to your routine, make sure it works with what you already own in order to avoid overconsumption and waste.

A Slow, But Tailored Lifestyle

Becoming a mindful consumer takes time and practice. There'll be times where it’s harder to avoid the marketing efforts of brands that want you to purchase their latest products. Nevertheless, once you are convinced of the benefits of slowing down and start practicing it, you’ll see enough rewards to make it part of your lifestyle! We need fast growth for slow beauty.
